“Perfection” Photo Project

I came up with the idea of the photo series called “Perfection” when I was sorting through photos taken on a beach in Da Nang, Vietnam. The day was very sunny, so you don’t really see what your phone captures. Just press the button over and over and hope quantity will become quality.

I saw this photo and at first it seemed perfect and no editing needed. Composition, colors – all was just like on a postcard.

And then I noticed one branch of the palm tree is bad and broken. Is it not a postcard picture anymore? Because it’s not perfect?

No, the photo is still great. And the broken branch adds character. It’s not just one of those postcard pictures anymore. It has a story.

So I think a photo like this is a great way to fight perfectionism. An imperfection does not make the world any worse. It adds depth and character, makes things unique and thus more valuable.

This photo was taken in a coffee shop in Da Nang, Vietnam. I was on a holiday, but apparently I don’t know what to do with my free time except work.

This latte cup was perfect even with some coffee spilled. Beautiful and unique.

This photo is from a cafe in a condominimum I stayed for 2 weeks in Bangkok. Lazy Sunday, headache and cramps. Treated myself to an Ibuprofen pill and an apple crumble with a latte. The crumble lived up to its reputation and had some crumbs.

Botanical garden in Lisbon. December 2020. This perfect photo turned out to have something out of place after all. Perfect.

It’s been some time I did a photo in the “Perfection” series. I never plan to shoot the imperfectly perfect image. Usually I notice imperfections when I edit.
