Lisbon in November and December is beautiful, sunny and quite warm. Outside. Inside the old apartments in Lisbon’s city centre it was really cold.

With its rich history and vibrant culture, there are so many things to see and do in this beautiful city.

First on the list of must-see attractions is the Torre de Belém. This iconic tower was built in the 16th century as a defense mechanism against attacks from the sea. Now, it’s one of the most popular tourist spots in the city. But be warned, you might get a crick in your neck from looking up at its impressive architecture!

Next up, take a stroll through the winding streets of Alfama. This charming neighborhood is known for its quaint buildings, traditional restaurants, and picturesque views of the Tagus River. It’s the perfect place to get lost and immerse yourself in the local culture.

For a taste of Lisbon’s artistic side, head to the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga. This museum is home to an impressive collection of Portuguese art, including paintings, sculptures, and decorative objects from the 12th to the 19th century. It’s a great place to appreciate the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Of course, no trip to Lisbon would be complete without indulging in some delicious Portuguese cuisine. Head to Mercado da Ribeira for a foodie adventure. This market is packed with stalls selling fresh seafood, cheese, bread, and of course, wine. It’s a food lover’s paradise!

Almada, Portugal – Christo Rei Observation Deck

Almada is a city across the river from Lisbon and about 15 minutes by ferry. Totally recommended day trip is you’re staying in Lisbon. The biggest attraction is Sanctuary of Christ the King (Santuário de Cristo Rei)

To get from Lisbon to Almada: 

  • take Cais do Sodre ferry station in Lisbon
  • 10 minute ride on Tagus river (price 1,3eur)
  • arrive at Cacihas station in Almada

To get to Sanctuary of Christ the King (Santuário de Cristo Rei) walk 40 min or take a taxi. I recommend walking along the beach and than up the hill if you have time. Beautifull views on 25th of April Bridge (Ponte 25 de April) connecting Lisbon and Almada.

Cascais, Portugal: Surfer’s Paradise

Cascais is another city in Portugal, very close to Lisbon, that’s great to visit for a day trip or a beach holiday.

To get to Cascais from Lisbon, Portugal we took the train at station Cais de Sodre and arrived at Cascais station. The ride took about 35 minutes. 

Then we walked through old town all the way to Boca do inferno aka Hell’s Mouth. The walk back by the beach side was packed with great views, big waves crushing into the cliffs. Closer to the station there are multiple old villas turned museums and the Citadel of Cascais. Citadel is a set of fortifications built between the 15th and 17th centuries to defend the Cascais coastline and Lisbon. The citadel also includes the former Royal Palace area.

Near the Cascais station the city has beaches, a Ferris Wheel and beautiful Seixas Palace.

Hidden Charm of Sintra, Portugal: A Traveler’s Must-See Destination

One of the town’s main attractions is the Palácio Nacional de Sintra, a beautiful palace with ornate ceilings and stunning gardens. Another must-see is the Castelo dos Mouros, a medieval castle with amazing panoramic views.

For the foodies out there, Sintra has plenty of delicious options, including traditional Portuguese dishes like bacalhau and cozido. Don’t forget to indulge in a pastel de nata, a delicious pastry that Portugal is famous for.
