What can you buy with 1000 TL in 2025? What is happening right now with Turkish Lira, with local currency in Turkey? Prices for food and clothes are growing, but are they still affordable?

Turkey is a popular destination both for beach holidays and for shopping. Prices always surprised me, they were lower than in Europe and Asia (for clothes, food, cosmetics). There are many local Turkish brands, which makes Turkey even more affordable when it comes to shopping.

Update. Inflation in Turkey is high, prices increase all the time. Original article was written a while ago and I was updating it every couple of months. Prices for food and drink in Turkey are also affordable compared to Western Europe. Although the inflation is still high and local restaurants are raising prices in Turkish Lira. If you haven’t been to Turkey for a year or two, they might even seem shocking.

What is happening with Turkish Lira conversion Rates?

What is happening now with the USD to TRY conversion rate?

During 2021 it went really high up, just February 2021 it was 7 Lira for 1 USD.

Right now in 2023 the exchange rates are:

23.36 TL for 1 USD

25.18 TL for 1 EUR

The exchange rates for USD and EUR to Turkish lira grow all the time.

Is it a good time to travel to Turkey now?

I also have to note that the situation changes every day. Turkish Lira unfortunately now drops almost every day. So if you’re planning to come now this is what you will see. If you will come later, prices in Turkish Lira might get a bit higher.

But even though the prices will go higher, they will go higher in local currency (in Turkish Lira), but in USD and EUR they will probably even go lower. This is of course a disaster for local people and everyone who gets their income in Turkish Lira, but for tourists it is good.

So I would really recommend everyone who wants to spend their holiday in Turkey, this is a really good time to come here now. Especially if you want some place with mountains, a place where you can do beach walks, go to restaurants. And everything for you will be very affordable.

What are the prices now in Turkey?

Let’s check out prices in some cheaper places and in more expensive ones to show you the range of prices. So when you come to Turkey yourself you will know what to expect.

The most affordable is of course street food in Turkey. But there is also no shortage of cafes and restaurants serving modern Turkish and Western food. Prices for food there would be 2-3 times more expensive.

Prices for Clothes in Turkey, what are the prices in Turkish Lira?

Now in 2023 can be a good time to come and buy clothes here, because Turkey has their own brands like LC Waikiki, De Facto, Koton, some others. They are inexpensive clothes, but they are similar to European brands like HM or Zara quality-wise. But the price difference now is really big.

Prices for Jeans in Turkey start from 400 Turkish lira / 16 USD

Prices of Jackets (light jacket) in Turkey start at 500 Turkish lira / 21.4 USD

Prices of Sweaters for men in Turkey start from 270 Turkish lira / 11.6 USD

Prices for shoes for men in Turkey start at 290 Turkish Lira / 12.4 USD

Turkish Fast Food Prices

Popular Turkish street food:

1. Kebab: Meat mixed with vegetables and grilled on skewers, typically lamb or beef, served with rice or bread.
2. Pide: A type of Turkish pizza, pide is a popular street food dish that features a thin, crispy crust and a variety of toppings, such as cheese, meat, or vegetables.
3. Corba: A traditional Turkish soup, corba is often served as a street food and features a variety of ingredients, such as lentils, vegetables, or yogurt.
4. Doner: Perhaps the most famous Turkish street food, doner is made by stacking layers of meat, typically lamb or beef, onto a large spit and slowly cooking it over a flame. The meat is then shaved off in thin slices and served in a wrap or with bread/French fries. Prices start at 70 TL / 3.7 USD
