The National Assembly of Vietnam just passed a new law that’s gonna make life easier for travelers! They’ve decided to extend the duration of electronic visas (e-visas) from 30 days to 90 days. So, if you’re planning a trip to Vietnam, you will be able stay for 3 whole months without the hassle of getting a new visa.
90 Day e-visa will allow travelers to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within a generous 90-day period, eliminating the need to apply for a new visa each time. It’s a convenient and hassle-free way to explore the beauty of Vietnam!
The introduction of electronic visa procedures is expected to enhance the efficiency of entry and exit management and provide more convenience for both Vietnamese citizens and foreigners. The process is simple and eliminates the need for applicants to visit Vietnamese representative offices or use intermediaries for visa applications. Pre-approval for e-visas enables immigration authorities to screen ineligible individuals, improving management effectiveness.

Can I come to Vietnam without a Visa?
If you’re from a country that doesn’t require a visa to visit Vietnam, they’ve got good news for you too. The visa-free period has been extended from 15 days to a more accommodating 45 days.
Awesome news for everyone who wanted to visit Vietnam, but didn’t want the Visa hassle. Some of the countries who were not allowed in Vietnam without an E-visa, will soon be getting 15 days visa-free.
When can I get 3 month E-visa to Vietnam
The new law will start on August 15, 2023. If you already have entry and exit documents issued before that date, no worries, they’ll still be valid. But so far even if you want to travel after August 15th, there is no official news whether you will be able to apply for 3 month visa before that.
Until August 15th the eVISA duration is still 30 days. You can apply for it here. Entry and exit E-Visas issued before August 15th will remain valid until their expiration dates. Meaning once your visa expires, or visa-free period ends, you have to leave Vietnam. You will have a stamp in your passport with the exact date until when you can stay.

If I come to Vietnam on 20th of July on the 30-day evisa, does the new law mean I can stay for 15-day visa free after 15th August? So I can stay till the end of August?
We will have to wait and see how the new law will work in practice. But from what we know now, I would assume that it is not going to be possible. When you pass the immigration at the airport, they stamp your passport with the date when you have to leave Vietnam. If you have a 30-day e-visa, they will give you not more than 30 days and then you’ll have to leave and re-enter with the new visa if you plan to stay longer.
