TOTAL SPENDING BREAKDOWN
12 000 TL – ONLY rent, utilities, groceries and eating out for 2 persons
I was living with my husband in a 1+1 apartment, which means it has one bedroom and one living room. We’re living in quite a touristy (which makes it expensive) city Antalya, about 15 minutes walk from the beach in a quite expensive by local standards area. We cook at home, but also go out for coffee and for dinner from time to time.
Our total expenses are closer to 16 -20 000 TL/month for 2 persons (on average). That if you include expenses for taxi/renting a car for a couple of days, buying clothes or personal items.
We lived in Turkey for a year and this was our average budget.
But yours might be different depending on your personal situation on whether you’re living alone or with the family.
If you are a student, live in a shared apartment, only cook at home and use public transport – it’s probably possible to live on 4000TL/month.
If you’re a professional, single, in your 30s living alone your budget might be 10 000 TL/month and higher.
Rent | Cost of Living in Turkey
Update. Rent prices are much higher now
Our rent was 4000 TL. Since then prices went up significantly, especially for tourists/foreigners in areas closer to the beach. So if you’re on a very tight budget, look for an apartment where Turkish families live, further from the beach. In Antalya it’s Kepez.
