Oludeniz Blue Lagoon – Fethiye’s Most Famous Beach
The Oludeniz Blue Lagoon is the crown jewel of the region and often appears on lists of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With its calm turquoise water, soft sand, and dramatic mountains surrounding the bay, it’s no surprise this place is world-famous.
Oludeniz is also one of the top paragliding spots globally. Launching from Babadağ Mountain and gliding down to the beach is an unforgettable experience. For those who prefer the sea, boats leave daily from Oludeniz to Butterfly Valley, a stunning canyon accessible only by water or a demanding hike.

Hidden Beaches Near Fethiye: Gemiler Bay
While Oludeniz attracts most visitors, Gemiler Bay Beach offers a completely different atmosphere. Just a short drive away, this quiet bay is surrounded by pine trees and looks out onto Gemiler Island, where the ruins of Byzantine churches can still be explored.
The beach is much less crowded than Oludeniz, with clear water and a relaxed, local feel. If you want to escape the tourist buzz, Gemiler Bay is a perfect choice.
Patara Beach – Endless Sand and Ancient History
About an hour from Fethiye, Patara Beach stretches for nearly 18 kilometers, making it the longest beach in Turkey. This wide strip of golden sand is a protected area where endangered caretta caretta sea turtles nest, so you won’t find heavy development or crowded resorts.
Patara is ideal for long walks, photography, and enjoying a natural setting. Right next to the beach lie the ruins of the ancient Lycian city of Patara, once a major harbor and trading center. A day here combines both nature and history in a way few destinations can.
Çalış Beach – Sunset Spot in Fethiye
Closer to town, Çalış Beach is known for its long promenade and spectacular sunsets over the sea. It’s easy to reach, lined with seaside cafes and bars, and remains one of the most convenient beaches if you’re staying in Fethiye.
During my visit in April 2025 some construction was in progress, but the beach atmosphere was still lively. Even with changes, Çalış continues to be a favorite for evening walks and relaxed dinners by the water. For many people, Çalış is the easiest beach to reach without leaving Fethiye.
Fethiye Old Town – End the Day by the Sea
After exploring the coastline, the best way to end your day is in Fethiye Old Town. Narrow cobbled streets, small shops, and waterfront restaurants give this part of town a unique charm. Compared to Oludeniz’s beach bars, dining here is usually better value and offers a more authentic atmosphere.

Fethiye is more than a beach destination. The area has Lycian rock tombs, the abandoned village of Kayaköy, and countless opportunities for hiking, boat tours, and diving. It also serves as a great base for exploring nearby towns such as Kas and Kalkan.
Compared with larger resort areas like Antalya or Bodrum, Fethiye feels calmer, less crowded, and offers a balance of nature, culture, and convenience.
Travel Tips for Visiting Fethiye Beaches
The best months to visit are May, June, September, and October, when the sea is warm but crowds are smaller. July and August are hotter and busier. Renting a car gives you the freedom to reach outlying beaches such as Patara and Gemiler Bay. Restaurants in Fethiye Old Town usually offer better prices than the tourist bars in Oludeniz. And for activities, don’t miss paragliding over Oludeniz or a boat trip to Butterfly Valley — both unforgettable experiences.
